Norway in a Nutshell 5 days
Day 1-2 Arrive in Oslo (transport to/from Norway not included). Stay at the 4 star Hotel Opera adjoining the main station. Free time to visit the Vigeland sculpture Park, the Viking longships from 10th Century or the Kon-Tiki exhibitions . Day 3 Early start for a trip on the Bergen Railway from Oslo. After leaving Oslo the train soon climbs to the ski resort of Geilo and then arrives at the highest point Finse, the blue ice of the Hardangerjokul glacier is seen glittering in the distance; change at Myrdal for the Flaam railway. This is the steepest railway in Europe descending nearly 846 metres in 50 minutes with a stop at the spectacular Kjossfossen falls. Stay a night at the 4 star Fretheim Hotel, a short walk from the port with stunning views up the fjord.		Day 4 The early afternoon ferry to Gudvangen passes a farm Stegen 300 metres above on a sheer rock before entering the most dramatic fjord in Europe the Naeroyfjord. Then by bus up the short Stalheimskleiva road with 13 hairpin bends for a brief stop at the 19th century Stalheim hotel to admire the panoramic view of the Naeroyfjord. At Voss take a local train to Bergen for an evening arrival. Overnight at the 4 star Hotel Grand Terminus adjoining the station. Day 5 Bergen has a wonderful panorama of historical merchants houses by the port in the world heritage area of Bryggen. Or take the Floybannen funicular railway up 320 meters for the best views of Bergen. Return to Oslo by day or night train (no overnight service Saturdays). Sleepers available on the overnight train.
